Travelling is an amazing and eye-opening experience that will impact you forever, and I  hope that everybody has the courage to travel to new places and experience what they have to offer. Travel is usually a safe activity if you take some basic precautions and do your homework a little bit beforehand. Part of taking precautions is to know what  kind of dangers are out there so you can be prepared for them in the event they do happen. But I hope you don't dwell on these dangers but rather be aware of them, because  oftentimes simply being aware will keep you out of danger. Let's take a look at some common travel scams to beware of.

One common scam when travelling is for your taxi driver to intentionally take you to the wrong destination. For example, you catch a taxi from the airport and tell the driver the name and address of your hotel, but while en route he informs you that your hotel is now closed but that he knows a hotel that is open and has space. Don't believe him, he's lying. He wants to take you to a hotel that gives him a commission for bringing guests.  Tell him to take you to your intended hotel even if it's closed, and if he takes you anywhere else, get out and refuse to pay.

Another common scam is for tourists to be overcharged. This is probably the most common scam of all. It is easy to avoid this by doing some research about basic prices before your trip. You should know beforehand how much a bottle of water will cost, how much a meal on the street will typically cost, how much a taxi ride between important destinations will cost, and so on. You can do this research with travel guidebooks, and  also on travel forums such as Lonely Planet's Thorn Tree. If you know the standard  price, vendors and taxi drivers will see that and will give you the standard price, or something close to it. And if they don't? Walk away. Then they will probably call you  back and give you the standard price.

Another scam is to invite you for lunch or for a cup of tea or something of the sort, and once you are there enjoying your cup of tea you will be assaulted by a relentless and aggressive sales pitch, trying to make you buy something you don't want. The solution here is to thank them for the tea or food, and stand up and leave. If they call  you back, leave anyway because they will try to find another way to lead into the heavy  sales pitch.

It's worth pointing out that befriending you is a very common lead-in for scams. Even if somebody seems friendly, keep your wits about you and be aware that an attempted scam could be coming. Don't stop yourself from enjoying true hospitality, but don't let your guard down either. Aside from inviting you for food or tea, a common approach for scam artists is to ask what country you are from, and then tell you they have a relative living in that country. This is a way of building some rapport and commonality with you so that you will be easier to trick. It's a safe bet that they are scam artists, so you can ignore them and move on. Another common lead-in for scam artists is to claim that they are university students who want to practice their English with you. A real student would never be so direct about his intentions to practice, but would simply talk to you and probably have some consideration for your time and space. Whenever a person who  approaches you seems to not have consideration for your time and space, get away from him. For example, someone invites you for tea and you refuse and try to move on, if the person gets indignant or tries to make you feel guilty for turning them down, then you can safely assume that that person is a scam artist.

It's natural to want to make friends with the local people when you are travelling. But unfortunately tourists are targets for scumbags who pray on people's cultural naivety and disorientation. Keep your wits about you and be aware of when people are trying to take something from you. Trust your gut instinct when it warns you that a scam is coming. But your gut won't always tell you, so keep your eyes open as well.

Traveling abroad has become a little more difficult with new regulations taking place since incidents like 9/11. Different countries have their own requirements for you to be able to be issued a visa. Some countries only require you to have a passport, two photo ids and the application form. For some countries the requirements can be a long list from pay slips to travel accommodations.

Requirements are based on your nationality and the country you are intending to travel to. Also considered are the types of visas being applied for (i.e. tourist, business, study, etc.); the rules are different for each visa. Some rules are only for a specific population. For instance, Islamic countries require women to be covered with a dark scarf.  An example would be applying for a Saudi visa.

If you are a student and the local University in the country you are traveling to have extended an invitation for you to study there, then you can apply for a study visa. For instance, you are to study in France you would get a French visa that would allow you to study there. The visa will only be valid for the duration of the course or courses that you are taking. It also does not give you permission to work there or conduct any other kind of business in that country. You will need the invitation from the University, a passport, picture ids and application form as the minimum requirements.

Business visa require that you have an invitation from a company in the country that you are traveling to. The amount of documentation needed can be a lot more. You may need to provide a letter from the company, proof of pay slips, travel insurance and proof of travel accommodations. Some countries require that flight and hotel bookings are made prior to applying for a visa. You would want to make sure that you have open bookings that are refundable in case your visa is denied. An India visa or China visa will only require a passport, two photos and the application form.

A tourist visa can be issued to most people with just a passport, two photo ids and an application form for most countries. However, some countries are extremely strict on tourist visa. A Russian visa is one example of being very strict. Let’s take Belarus as an example. Belarus is extremely strict and the requirements must be adhered to the letter. If you are going to be staying in a hotel, the bookings must be confirmed. Once they are confirmed then a tourist invitation can be extended to you and you can start the process. If you are visiting a family and are going to be staying in private accommodations, then the family must extend a private invitation. This invitation must be issued by the local migration authorities. Once the invitation has been given, then you can apply for a homestay visa. A tourist visa is issued for short periods of time.

Although there are differences between the requirements for each country, most of the countries have the same basic requirements. For most countries, you need a passport, two photo ids and an application form. The passport most generally will have an added requirement; it will need to have an expiration date of six months from the time that you are suppose to leave the country. If the passport will expire before that time, then you have to get a new passport.

Check with your local embassy for up to date requirements for the country you want to travel to.

Knowledge Leads To Amazing Success

Whether you’re running a race or singing an aria, the ability to breathe in enough air
quickly can make all the difference in your performance.

Breathe in, breathe out.

That essential element, oxygen, flows in and feeds the
processes fueling your performance.

In the same way, knowledge feeds the processes that bring success.
Being able to absorb large blocks of knowledge quickly is called “transference”
and it’s going to propel you toward prosperity like nothing else.

The Knowledge You Need is Already Out Theres

Like an abundant supply of fresh air, knowledge is readily available for those who seek it.
The secret is to get in front of people who have already done what you want to do.

By being in their presence, listening to them and what they know,
transference of knowledge can take place
quickly. In other words, a huge handing off of knowledge
takes place in a short period of time.

Some of us think we have to sweat and struggle, twist and turn through our journey to prosperity,
when the truth is there are already people who know what we need to know to move forward.

Becoming tuned into those people, recognizing when you’re being given the gift of knowledge,
is a trait truly successful people cultivate.

The goal, then, is to identify those special people.
Listen to what they have to say with your mind wide open to all the possibilities.
Don’t allow your automatic roadblocks to pop up and shut down the transfer of knowledge.
When you can do that, that’s when you begin to move forward by leaps and bounds toward your goals.

Here are some ideas for finding the people with the knowledge you need:
1. Who is most successful in your field? Offer to buy them lunch in exchange for an hour answering your questions.
Respect their time and come prepared with a list if you’re hoping for follow-up time later.

2. Invest in a consultant. But don’t pick someone from the phone book!
Have they done what you hope to do?
Paying someone to help you avoid the big pitfalls is a great investment, if you choose carefully.

3.Join or form a mastermind group.
Like you, there are others who have found success in specific areas but need help in others.
Pool that combined knowledge in a mastermind group and help each other find solutions.
Weekly calls with your group can keep you from wasting time on things that don’t work.

Become Intensely Aware of Life’s Learning Opportunities

The single key factor in the amazing success many people achieve i
s the ability to recognize learning opportunities. What looks like failure to someone else could,
instead, look like a way to learn quickly what not to do next time.

Once you’ve found someone with the information you need at this point in your life,
take a deep breath and get ready to learn.

The worst thing you can do, when life hands you the opportunity to learn quickly,
is start throwing out objections.

Some common ones are, “That can’t possibly work” or “My situation is different.”

I’m not advocating indiscriminate learning.
But you can suspend your disbelief long enough to hear what someone else has to say.

That simple act of truly being able to listen without critiquing allows the
knowledge to flow in and begin to change the way you think.

Remain tuned into the ways life brings exactly the knowledge you need.

Cultivate an awareness of what can be learned in every situation.
Each chance encounter, whether on a plane, in a meeting or at a party
brings with it the possibility that transference of information can occur, if you’re ready.
